Over 5,000 people from 15 or more states have participated in the event since 2013.
The GP5K | Hero Ride is the largest of it’s kind in southeast Iowa. This event serves as the Foundation’s largest fundraiser and receives tremendous support from local businesses and the community.
2013 - Leslie Becker (Garrett’s pancreas recipient) met the Brockway family and shared her story to nearly 1,500 race participants at the opening ceremony
2014 - Emma Dorcy (Garrett’s cornea recipient) and her family surprised the Brockway’s at the 2nd annual GP5K and have attended the event ever since
2015 - Iowa Governor Terry Brandstadt declared Sept. 26th, 2015 as Garrett’s Path Day. A day for all Iowans to consider becoming organ donors.
2016 - 132 balloons were released in honor of every one of Garrett’s organ, cornea and tissue recipients.
2017 - Josh (Garrett's liver recipient) and his family traveled from Goddard, KS to attend the event. His mother, Jennifer, shared with the participants how Garrett's gift has changed their lives. Over 600 balloons were released to honor Garrett's 132 recipients and the Iowans currently waiting for a life saving gift. Having 3 of Garrett's recipients attend the event was truly an honor.
